How Does the New Twitter Search and Discover Work?

Twitter today announced an update to their Search and Discover feature on iOS, Android, as well as

Twitter said that the update will help you better search, interact and search for people to follow. Here is a quick run down of what has changed:

Search: I don’t really know why Twitter didn’t have this earlier. The first thing you will notice when you update the app is a magnifying glass icon next to the button you use to compose a new tweet. This has been on the iPad version for a while now and it is nice to see them adding it to the iPhone version. Search results now show a mix of Tweets, Photos, and accounts.

Discover: Now all the content in Discover — Tweets, Activity, Trends and suggestions of accounts to follow — appears in a single stream, on both iPhone and Android. You can also dive into Activity and Trends from new previews at the top of the Discover tab.

Connect: To simplify Connect tab, Twitter decided to make the default view is the Interactions, which shows you new followers, retweets and mentions. In the previous version, there used to be a tabe for mentions and another one for interactions. If you prefer to view only your mentions in Connect, you can adjust the default in settings. On the iPhone, go to Me > Settings > Settings > Connect Tab and select Metions Only.

Links: Click a URL in a Tweet to go directly to that website from any timeline and get to content highlighted on Twitter faster. (Previously, when you tapped any part of a Tweet, it would first expand and then a second click was required to get to the website.)
