Google has acquired visual search engine Like.com. The purchase was announced on Like.com homepage Friday night.

Like.com is a visual shopping search engine that developed a technology to help shoppers buy soft goods, such as apparels, shoes, jewelry online.  ”we’ve developed technology that lets us understand visually what terms like “red high-heeled pumps” and “floral patterned sleeveless dress” mean and created algorithms to understand whether those pumps complement or clash with that dress.”

“We were the first to bring visual search to shopping, the first to build an automated cross-matching system for clothing, and more,” chief executive Shah wrote. “We didn’t stop there, and we don’t have plans to stop now. We see joining Google as a way to supercharge our vision and supercharge our passion.”

The news confirms rumors that Google and Like were in acquisition talks earlier this week, which first surfaced on TechCrunch.
