If you use Google’s Gmail or Google Reader, then you are familiar with their “star” feature. It’s an easy way to highlight items and refer to them later. Today, Google News added the same function.
When you visit Google News, you will notice the little “star” next to the main headlines. Starring a story headline will put the story cluster in the “Starred” section in Google News.
You will notice the use of the star function is a little different with Google News. When you “star” a story cluster, you are telling Google you want to keep following the story. Unlike Gmail and Google Reader, starring a story is only available to the main story in the cluster and if you click on “all news articles” in the cluster the star feature will disappear. So in essence you are telling Google you want to follow the story and not the actual story link.
When there are significant updates, Google will put the story’s headline in bold. You can follow up to 20 starred stories in the “Starred” section of Google News.
