If you are a fan of National Geographic gorgeous maps in World Atlas, then you will appreciate the new National Geographic’s World Atlas for the iPhone and iPod touch.

The new application which was just released (iTunes link) is packed with the world’s best maps and enables you to browse, search, and zoom on detailed maps.

The application is very easy to use and packed with features. It contains seven different levels of National Geographic cartography. Through partnership with Microsoft’s Bing maps, the application allows you to view satellite imagery and zoom in close enough to see you home!

You can mark, annotate and save  your favorite places with a push-pin tool.

The applications takes advantage of camera and GPS enabled iPhones to geo-tag photos and quickly center the map to your current position.

The app has a built-in search tool to search through its directory which contains nearly 7 million entries.
