It’s a new year, and in the new year, many resolve to try new things. So why not try out some new search engines for the new year. There’s something for everyone out there. Who knows? Maybe you’ll find something you’d never have found on Google.

If you’re looking for…

…Forums: Try Zhift.com

Having gone through several relaunches, Zhift.com may have finally got it right by branding itself in the niche of forum search engines. Using this site, it’s possible to search forum topics from all over the world. So, for example, if a user is looking for information about “female travel”, she types it into Zhift’s search bar, and boom – 2,130,000 results.

Zhift has some other services as well. It allows webmasters to search for Dofollow forums in the Zhift Dofollow Pre-Alpha, and there is also a Zhift PDF service that searches PDFs all over the internet.

…Immediate gratification: Instafound.com

Instafound connects users with what it deems to be the most useful website for the keyword they’ve typed, instantly, instead of the user having to choose the site from a list. While some say it’s like Google’s “I’m Feeling Lucky” button, the team at Instafound disagrees. They say that instead of being about luck, they’ve replaced the guessing game with knowledge, using advanced algorithms that detect which site would be best for the user’s query. Their motto: “Type a term and get taken to a site. Simple.”

…Bargains: Bargain-Notify.me

Now you don’t have to search for bargains anymore. Input your search terms into this bargain search engine, and it will notify you when the bargain you are looking for comes available. It’s possible to get updates through e-mail, Twitter, or RSS. The search tool isn’t totally accurate – a search for ‘baby strollers’ turns up decorative pillows, baby lotion, and diapers – but the notification feature is nice since most people have too many websites they visit to keep on top of bargain hunting.

…Music: Museeca.com

Museeca features a simple design and allows users to search for music in a variety of categories. These include MP3 music, ringtones, lyrics, guitar tabs and music videos. The search feature works surprisingly well, leading you straight to a download page, rather than taking you to a spammy page like many other music search engines.

…eBooks: Inkmesh.com

With the Kindle, iPhone, and more electronic ways to read books these days, eBooks are hotter than ever. A new search engine makes it easy to find eBooks, as well as to compare prices for the eBook for each of the various readers. The search features two buttons: ‘find eBooks’ and ‘find free eBooks’. The results page provides searchers with the price of the eBook, the devices it’s available on, as well as an Audible.com rating of the book, and a short summary.

Nice post. I tried out a few of them and found zhift.com to be my favorite. The results are very broad, but having the ability to filter the results to forums with dofollow linking is a nice feature.
